Children's Oral Care Hasn't Quite Caught Up
Walk down any oral care aisle and it’s hard to miss - bright colours, strong flavours, and formulas designed to appeal quickly. It's a category built on heavy marketing and habit, not always on scrutiny.
But when you look a little closer, the picture is less considered.
Many conventional children’s toothpastes still rely on:
- Synthetic colourants and flavourings, added purely for appeal
- Petroleum-derived ingredients commonly used for texture and stability
- Strong sweeteners to encourage compliance
- And formulations that prioritise sweetness and familiarity over long-term oral health
Questions are increasingly being raised around how certain products - particularly those aimed at children - are marketed and how fluoride-based products are positioned for children. Risks are not always made clear to parents.
Fluoride can be effective in the right amounts.
But younger children are more likely to swallow toothpaste, and excessive exposure during early years has long been associated with dental fluorosis.
And yet, many products remain packaged and presented in a way that feels simple, safe, and universally suitable - without always reflecting that nuance.
At Laro, we believe children deserve more than that.
Not fear. Not confusion.
Just better formulation, clearer thinking, and a little more care in the details.

A Note from Beth
Little Laro has been on my mind for a long time. Partly as a founder - but mostly as a parent.
Over the past year, I’ve had more and more families reach out to say they were already using Laro with their children. That, in itself, felt like a huge responsibility. It told me that what we had created was already seen as a better option - but also that there was space to do something more thoughtful, more specific.
Children don’t need whitening, for example.
They need support. They need gentleness. They need something designed for where they are - not adapted from something else.
And beyond the formula, there’s something else I kept coming back to.
The small, everyday rituals.
Children are creatures of habit. It’s how they make sense of the world, how they build a sense of safety and rhythm in their day. Those repeated moments - morning, evening, again and again - quietly shape how they care for themselves over time.
I didn’t want to create something loud or overly simplified.
I wanted something calm. Considered. Something that fits naturally into those moments, and supports them.
Little Laro is being built with the same philosophy as everything we do; just with a little more softness, and a lot more intention.
